ABIBATU MOGAJI THE PLAY: PRESIDENT TINUBU HONOURS LATE MOTHER, SAYS ADMINISTRATION WILL INVEST MORE IN ARTS FOR THE EDUCATION OF THE YOUNGER GENERATION
President Bola Tinubu says the entertainment industry deserves more attention and recognition as it rekindles history and equips the younger generation with the knowledge of past events.
The President, who spoke at a stage production held in honour of his late mother, Hajiya Abibatu Mogaji, OON, MFR, said the government will invest more in culture and arts to bridge the past and the present and create a pathway for the future.
The play titled, ‘Abibatu Mogaji: An Opera’, was staged at the Conference Centre of the State House, on Tuesday, with the Vice-President, Senator Kashim Shettima; Senate President Godswill Akpabio; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Right Honourable Tajudeen Abbas, and other dignitaries in attendance.
President Tinubu’s mother passed away on June 15, 2013, at the age of 96, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of service to family, community, the underprivileged, and the nation.
The President said he inherited his resilience, determination, and discipline from his mother, who was “tough and determined”.
“My first restaurant was the best. My first toilet was the best. My first bedroom was her back. There is no way I could have come this far, and become this old without her care,’’ the President said.
The President thanked the Executive Producer of the play, Mr. Ola Awakan and the Director, Dr. Ahmed Yerima for scripting and directing a play to immortalize his mother.
President Tinubu commended the “thoroughly researched’’ play, which reflected her moments on earth.
“I could see that they know her very well. She was tough. She was a disciplinarian. I can thank God for the gift I got from her. It was an enduring gift of character and determination. Never to give up,’’ the President stated.
The President said his son, Seyi, and other family members will benefit from the production, noting that theatre conveys lessons from history through re-enactment.
In his vote of thanks, the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu thanked the managers and crew for putting up a brilliant performance to immortalize the late Iya-loja of Lagos.
In his remarks, Awakan thanked the President for the opportunity and support to stage the play at the Presidential Villa.

Budget Ultimatum: PDP Cautions Former Rivers Lawmakers
…Charges IGP to Check Subversive Acts
The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the umpteenth time, cautions the former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who lost their seats upon defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to desist from actions and utterances that are capable of disrupting peace and governance in the State.
The Party counsels the former lawmakers to wake up to the reality that they are no longer members of the Rivers State House of Assembly by virtue of the self-executory provision of Section 109 (1) (g) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and as such cannot gather or issue any notice to the State Governor in the capacity of members of Rivers State House of Assembly.
PDP’s caution is coming against the backdrop of a purported seven-day ultimatum issued by the former lawmakers from an unknown location to Governor Siminialayi Fubara to re-present the 2024 Rivers State budget which has already been passed and signed into law.
This action by these individuals seeking to assume the powers of the Rivers House of Assembly is apparently with the intension to cause crisis, undermine and disrupt the Democratic and Constitutional Order in the State in clear violation of Section 1 sub-section 2 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
Having irretrievably lost their seats upon their defection from the PDP, the political Party platform upon which they were elected into the Rivers State House of Assembly, they cannot enjoy the powers, rights, privileges, recognition and obligations of members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The PDP charges the Inspector General of the Police to note the subversive action of these former lawmakers and take immediate action to protect the Institution of Democracy, peace and security in Rivers State.
The Party calls on the people of Rivers State to remain vigilant, law-abiding and continue to work together for the continued stability, peace and delivery of democracy dividends in Rivers State on the platform of the PDP.
